The fun begins
We would like to make our working together in this
process of website design as quick and easy as possible. The ball is
definitely in your court at the outset. You need to answer the
following questions in as much detail as possible and you can be sure
that we are available all along the way to clarify or make recommendations.
Information needed
1.
First you need to decide on a domain name which is really your
URL or web address (example: www.yourbusiness.net). You may purchase it yourself by going to
www.dotster.com,
or we will be glad to process this for you. Email your choice of a
domain name to us and we will see if it exists already. If it does
we will suggest alternatives and go from there.
2.
Decide
how many pages
you will need, at
least to begin with, and what title is to be given to each page, such
as: Home Page, Products, Services, About Us, Contact Us, etc. You
may want sub pages to some of these pages as well.
3. Provide us with your business logo
in as large a
format as possible, preferably the way it came from your graphic
designer. If you don't have a logo, we will be glad to design one
for you.
4. Choose a color scheme. You might get ideas
from some favorite websites that you have seen online. Do you
want the
background white or black or plum? We, of course, are always here
to make suggestions. Often clients leave this one pretty much up
to us. That's OK.
5. Let us know if you have a preference in
lettering
style. The font which you are presently reading is Arial, a
type face that is popular, somewhat modern and very easy to read.
Times New Roman is another font that is popular, more traditional and
reads well on the web (example:
Welcome).
6. What do you want to communicate content
wise? This is the heart of your site and so it must focus on what
you wish to showcase about your company. If you will email to us what
you want each page to say it will make the process faster and
easier. Only you can tell your story, however we will be glad to help by
rewriting or editing your copy.
7. Graphics are vital in capturing the
attention of potential clients and drawing them into your site.
Think through what pictures you would like on each page and their
relative importance in the layout of that page (that is, should the
graphic be
larger or smaller, outstanding or more subtle). We will have good ideas for you in this area.
If you are considering having a grouping of images in your logo or
elsewhere, go to
montage to learn more.
8. How sophisticated do you want your site to
be? In other words, do you want all elements on your website to
appear on all browsers, or do you want to include more complex elements
that can only be viewed with Internet Explorer 4 or later? For
example, the hyperlink hover buttons at the top of this page cannot be
viewed by older browsers, however they do add a wonderful dimension to a
site. Many clients choose to display hyperlinks that appear the
same on all browsers like the ones at the bottom of this
page.
COST
After
working through these points we are sure that you have more questions,
especially concerning what our services will cost. Your answers
will allow us to give you some cost options. Send your ideas to us at
ideas@terntec.com.
It will be our privilege to help you and your business go cyber.
