Here in northern Virginia is a hike for everyone; just remember that
one must climb back up whatever one descends. The falls
is just a little over a half mile from the Parkway making it one of
the most popular trails in the Shenandoah. You can hike beyond
the falls if you wish, but since we had the grandchildren that was far
enough. It was a pleasant day in June of 2008 for a family
outing.

The path is broad and kept up well. It follows a small stream
most of the way down. The 400 foot decent in altitude gives this
hike a "moderate" rating in difficulty.
Dark Hollow Falls drops 70 feet, cascading over large flat lava
boulders,
and people were scrambling over much of it when we were there.
A good time was had by all. No wonder it is a popular jaunt.
