Mount Magazine is the
highest point in Arkansas at 2,753 feet above sea level. Besides
quite a few hiking trails, the park has hang gliding and rock climbing
areas plus a beautiful lake.
I was here to hike and though my time was limited, I had to explore
this mountain, so I chose to strike out on the North Rim Trail and
circle around, returning on the Mossback Ridge and Greenfield Trails.
The map indicated it to be about 4.4 miles, and I was determined to do
it. Maps are readily available at the visitor's center.

The trail was quite overgrown at the beginning (right), but I saw very
little poison ivy to avoid. Red medallions on the trees mark the
way. After about 1.5 miles fine vistas open up to the north
(below).
"I will lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."
Psalm 121:1 & 2

This whole area is mostly wooded with oak-hickory and pine with a nice
diversity of undergrowth, and plenty of other hiking trails. The
circuit I took is an easy, enjoyable hike, and I
did jog about half of the way and made it in just over an hour.
Even though it was a Saturday afternoon, I was surprised not to meet
anyone on the trail.
One last word of advice; remember that this is chigger and tick
country, so use some bug spray on your legs just to be safe.
