Here is a short, riverside hike that everyone likes.  The rangers will tell you that although it is on private land, hiking is allowed.  The unofficial parking area is a bit tricky to find.  If you go about 4 miles south of the Pine Grove Furnace ranger station on Route 233 be looking for a small blue "Adams County" sign (right).  Park and head to the right down to the creek.  There is always some way of getting across without getting wet.  Because there is no one trail, I would suggest that you basically just follow the creek and whatever path takes your fancy.

My son and I usually maneuver our way just above the "pool" (above left) and then come back, which is about
 two miles round trip.

In 2007 we ran across this medium sized timber rattler
and backed it away from the trail.

We do Tumbling Run almost every year somewhat early in the season when the creek is full and the bugs
 are scarce.
